How the digital SAT works

Your second module is decided by your first.

  1. Every section begins with Module 1. A mixed set of easy, medium and hard questions.
  2. Module 1 is measuring you. How many you get right decides which Module 2 you are given.
  3. A strong Module 1 unlocks the harder Module 2. The whole scale stays open, all the way to 800.
  4. A weak Module 1 routes to the easier Module 2. Even a perfect second module tops out near 600.
  5. So the first module matters most. SatStars routes on the same rule, in both sections — practice that ignores it is practice for a different exam.

The SatStars loop

Not a pile of questions. A feedback loop.

  1. Take a test. A full adaptive paper: two sections, four modules, the real clock.
  2. Get detailed results. A 400–1600 score with both sections, and every question explained.
  3. Identify weaknesses. Accuracy by domain and skill shows exactly where the points went.
  4. Practise targeted skills. The Question Bank opens on that skill, and remembers every answer.
  5. Take another test. A stronger Module 1 now opens the harder Module 2.
  6. Improve. The same report, a higher number — and the next skill to work on.

The score report

A score is where the work starts.

  1. First, the number. 400–1600, with a score for each section.
  2. Then, where it came from. Accuracy in every domain you were tested on.
  3. Then, the one that cost the most. The report finds your weakest skill for you.
  4. Your next improvement is here. Advanced Math at 64% is where the next points are.
  5. And the practice is already waiting. Questions from exactly that skill, in the Question Bank.

Thousands of questions by domain, skill and difficulty. Come back and it opens where you left off, with every answer graded.

  3. 03

    Reading library and vocabulary

Half the exam is reading. Read a chapter, tap a word like , and it goes into a deck you can drill.

  4. 04

    Battles

Head to head with another student on the same questions and one clock, graded at the end.

    Streaks and the leaderboard

Every question pays points once, on your first answer. Practise two days running and a streak starts counting.

Released papers, sat in the same player.

The actual exams, not questions written to look like them — each one read out of the paper it was published as and checked question by question.

Is this the digital SAT or the old paper one?

The digital SAT. Two sections, two modules each, 134 minutes, an adaptive second module, and the 400–1600 scale the College Board actually uses.

Do I need to pay to take a full test?

No. A free account sits full-length practice tests with the score report and the explanations. Paid plans raise the daily allowance and open the released papers and competitions.

Where do the questions come from?

The bank is built from the College Board’s own released material, tagged by domain and skill. Released papers are read out of the sittings they were published as and checked question by question before anyone can sit them.

Will it run on my phone?

Yes, and the drills are made for it. Sit full-length tests on a laptop if you can — that is what test day is, and practising on the shape of the real thing is the point.

Your number can move. Find out where it starts.
